The Guns of August
Days 2 and 3: The armies clash.
Setting up the big table for the main event.
Jon Harding moves a late arriving French infantyr division forward to link the French centre with its right. A nasty hole is plugged.
Robert Dunlop, commanding the French right, looks pretty happy with things. He should do, his own left flank has finally been covered, and now he can settle down to forcing back the German left.
The game is in full swing. Nick commands the BEF. The German attack on the French centre can be seen developing just beyond the BEF positons.
The German Guards corps seen from behind their positions advancing to attack the French cavalry. The French are under fire from German Corps 150s, with stands seen suppressed at the top of the picture.
Two shots of the French centre under pressure from the German Guards. A steady nerve saw the German attack falter.
A decimated German Guards corps, after taking two turns of fire from French and BEF troops. There is clearly little left at this stage.
To make the point, the French right has advanced on the German left, pushing the troops so far back that the German centre now as its flank exposed.
